What is it to be a Dreamer? I often start the process of creating a scent with a deep reflection about the meaning and purpose of what it is to be fully human. Launched over a decade ago, the Dreamer concept began over a slow coffee and journalling at my favourite seaside cafe, as I reflected on the special superpower of those who live in the world of infinite, limitless possibility, and seem to wear optimism as a flower crown.
Looking back, I vividly recall the clear, sunny day, where the sky was a deep blue, the air clean and warm. It felt so good just to be alive. I remember thinking how beautiful it would be to stay in that state of perpetual joy, regardless of the weather, the setting, or the circumstances.Β
The question in my mind was, Can you live with your head in the clouds, while still having your feet on the ground?
Deep-rooted joy and optimism are not just a disposition, but a chosen state - something we can choose to remain in even when life is less than optimal. Moreover, the people I know who are eternal optimists are almost always dreamers, too, with purpose for their life, and a creative way of expressing all of it.
Yes, some of us seem to be born with it - those we like to call free spirits - but others make the choice to live free - open-hearted, open-minded, seeing the hopeful beauty and possibility in every situation.
Recently, after engaging in a brief conversation with a random stranger in a cafe, I was told, "You live your life wearing rose-coloured glasses." My response was, "Yes, and what is wrong with that? I choose to wear those glasses." I know the realities of the world; I feel the pain just like everyone else. But I choose to continue focusing on the beauty that still exists.
I almost always name a scent before I begin any part of the actual perfume process. And so it was with Dreamer. The name first, and then journalling all of the beautiful adjectives that describe a Dreamer: wistful, creative, light, freedom, dancing, joy, hope, optimist, sunshine....
From there, the process of choosing ingredients is instinctive: I feel an intimate connection with the materials - they seem to have a life and character of their own. As I ponder a words like joy and freedom, I contemplate the materials in my head, sensing their aroma through memory recall, and making notes on paper about which materials best represent this feeling and presence.
Tangerine and orange blossom - lightness, sheer joy, optimism; ginger and pink pepper - momentum, strength; mimosa - elevated, other worldly, an ethereal image of fireflies in a rainforest; orris butter - transportive, lingering, nurturing; carrot seed and clary sage - deeply rooted, quiet reserves of internal strength.
Dreamer has been a favourite of our customers and of beauty editors for many years. In the few years following its launch, it won multiple awards for Best Natural Fragrance. Dreamer has universal appeal as an easy-to-wear light fruity floral scent which lifts your spirits and elevates your mood.Β
Early in 2026, as I considered the radical reinvention of ONE SEED, and which scents would move forward with me, I felt the need to revisit the story of each scent, and rewrite its poetry to be more reflective of this new journey.
The phrase, Carry it all lightly had become a mantra for me in recent years, and I felt the new deeper direction for the Dreamer story was an encouragement to always find a song to dance to.Β
She is the wistful one; stars in her eyes and a song on her lips, dancing through life to a tune that is only hers.Β Carry it all lightly, it whispers. So she does - dreaming, believing, feasting on the fruit it creates. Hope, like sweet nectar, dripping down her chin.
