Peace on Earth (& In My Mind): Cultivating a Season of Peace

Posted by Liz Cook on

Christmas is a time of peace, not chaos and busyness. Let’s turn down the noise, remember what truly brings us joy, and create space for the things that bring meaning to our world.

Here are some ideas to help you move into a season of peace and blessing this Christmas.

Start Your Morning with Deep Breathing.

Before you grab your phone or check emails, even before your coffee. 2 minutes of breathing can reduce stress hormones significantly, bring more oxygen to your brain and body, and set the tone for your whole day.

Declutter your mind with a digital detox.

Perhaps start small - even half a day with absolutely no technology. You’ll reduce stress hormones and decrease your body’s need for dopamine, which means feeling more positive and motivated, less anxious with a more balanced mood.

Get close to nature every day.

A walk in the park or on the beach, barefoot is ideal, or even a stroll through your local plant nursery. Green spaces help slow our heart rate and breathing, reduce stress hormones and boost feelings of happiness.

Apologise to someone you’ve hurt.

Even if was years ago. Even if you think they’ve probably forgotten. Saying sorry can go a long way to soothe wounds on both sides, and can even have physiological benefits, increasing oxytocin, decreasing cortisol and promoting healing within your body.
